Cinnamon Bentota Beach was designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, one of the most celebrated figures in the development of modern Sri Lankan architecture. Known for his ability to blend traditional Sri Lankan elements with modernist design, Bawa created an architectural masterpiece that harmonizes with the natural surroundings. The resort’s design reflects his signature style, featuring open spaces, natural materials, and expansive views of the ocean, creating a tranquil, immersive environment.
The hotel first opened its doors in 1985 and quickly became a landmark destination in Sri Lanka. It is considered one of the early examples of Geoffrey Bawa’s work that embraces Sri Lanka’s cultural and environmental heritage while offering world-class luxury.
